The Earth is larger from here than Saturn. That tells you how close he is to home — and how far he has already gone.

A single astronaut sits on a burl wood cliff at the right of the hexagonal frame, facing left, facing the Earth. The planet fills the left side of the scene — large, detailed, continents visible in blue and green, glowing from within. Saturn floats further away in the upper right, smaller, its rings intact. Between them: a galaxy of deep blue, electric nebula in orange and violet, and star scatter dense enough to fill every corner of the frame. The burl wood formation the astronaut sits on runs from upper right to lower center — natural, irregular, the grain catching the light from below in warm amber.

The hexagonal form gives this lamp six clean edges that catch light differently at different times of day. In daylight it reads as a sculpture. In darkness it becomes a window.

Each lamp is made by hand in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Earth, Saturn, and astronaut figures are positioned inside the hexagonal resin mold at different depths before the galaxy layers are poured around them — deep blue base, then nebula pigment in orange and violet built up slowly, star scatter added last. The burl wood formation is a real piece of wood, shaped and inlaid from the upper right to lower center so the astronaut sits at the exact junction of wood and resin. Because every piece is handmade, the exact galaxy spread, the burl grain pattern, and the position of each figure are never identical. What arrives is the only one built exactly this way.
