From out here, the Earth is the size of a marble. Two astronauts are watching it.
The planet hangs in the upper left of the scene — blue and green, detailed, unmistakably home — while a purple and pink nebula fills the space behind it from edge to edge. Two astronauts drift in the lower half, untethered, one face-up and one reaching forward, both small against the scale of everything around them. Asteroid formations on both sides catch the resin color — deep red, amber, dark — the kind of rock that drifts through space for millions of years without hitting anything. The light comes from below, warm white, and the nebula above it shifts from red at the base through purple to near-black at the top.
There is a photograph taken from the Apollo 8 mission called Earthrise — the Earth rising over the lunar horizon, small and blue and completely alone in black space. Every astronaut who has seen the Earth from that distance reports the same thing: a sudden understanding of how fragile it is, and how much it matters. This lamp holds that moment. Two figures, out far enough to see the whole thing at once.
Each lamp is made by hand in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Earth figure and two astronauts are positioned inside the gem-cut resin form at different depths before the layers are poured around them — the nebula background built in layers of purple, pink, and black pigment swirled slowly until the galaxy reads correctly at depth. The asteroid walls on both sides are formed from the natural resin structure, textured and irregular. Because every piece is handmade, the exact spread of the nebula, the position of each astronaut, and the light scatter from the cut edges are never identical. What arrives is the only one built exactly this way.
