Two wolves on opposite cliffs, both howling at the same moon. The aurora answers.

A full moon sits at the center top of the disc, white and detailed, the kind of moon that pulls tides and wolves and everything else that pays attention to the sky. Below it, the northern lights ripple downward in teal, green, and purple — the aurora borealis exactly as it looks from a clearing in a boreal forest at two in the morning. Pine trees line both sides of the canyon in silhouette. On the left cliff, one white wolf howls upward. On the right cliff, another does the same. The natural wood grain fills the lower half of the disc on both sides, deep amber and red burl, warm against the cold of the scene above it. White light from the base cuts up through the canyon between the cliffs.

Wolves howl for many reasons — to locate each other across distance, to mark territory, to call the pack together. When two wolves howl at the same time from different positions, they are not just making sound. They are telling each other exactly where they are.

Each lamp is made by hand in Hanoi, Vietnam. The wolf figures, pine tree silhouettes, and moon are positioned inside the circular resin mold before the aurora layers are poured around them — teal, green, and purple pigment swirled in slow passes to form the northern lights effect, star scatter added throughout. The natural wood is shaped into the disc form, chosen for its burl grain, inlaid on both sides of the lower half. Because every piece is handmade, the exact ripple of the aurora, the star scatter, and the wood grain are never identical. What arrives is the only one built exactly this way.
