The manta ray arrived first. Everyone else arranged themselves around it.

At the top of this lamp, a manta ray crosses the full width of the scene — wingspan edge to edge, moving the way only manta rays move: slowly, absolutely, as if the water has no choice but to part for it. A sea turtle drifts mid-water below, watching. Two divers stand at the floor of the scene, looking up at both of them. A jellyfish hangs between the divers and the turtle. At the very base, a full coral reef in green, orange, red, and pink grows in the brightest part of the light.

Every creature in this lamp is looking in a different direction. The manta moves forward. The turtle watches the manta. The divers look up at the turtle. The jellyfish drifts, indifferent to all of it. That is exactly how an encounter in open water actually feels — everyone present, each one in their own world, briefly sharing the same column of water.

Each lamp is made by hand in Hanoi, Vietnam. The manta ray, turtle, divers, jellyfish, and coral are positioned inside the irregular resin form at different depths before the layers are poured around them. The natural wood is inlaid on the left side, its jagged edge forming the canyon wall where rock meets open water. The resin edges are raw and irregular — no two fracture the same way. Because every piece is handmade, the exact placement of each creature, the shape of the resin edge, and the wood grain are never identical. What arrives is the only one built exactly this way.
