The wood parts first, and the ocean begins.

This lamp is built from a solid wood block — dark, dense, the kind of wood that has been growing for a long time. The resin cuts through the center of it in an irregular oval, the way water cuts through rock over centuries, and inside that opening: two manta rays gliding through open blue water, four jellyfish drifting at different heights, coral growing at the base where the wood floor meets the ocean floor. The wood on both sides is not decoration. It is the canyon. The ocean exists inside it.

From the top edge, the resin is clear all the way to the surface — you can see the jellyfish near the top from above, the way you would see them from a boat looking down into clear water. The blue light fills the oval from within and spills outward through the wood grain on both sides.

Each lamp is made by hand in Hanoi, Vietnam. The wood block is shaped and the irregular resin channel carved through its center before the manta rays, jellyfish, and coral are positioned inside at different depths. The resin is then poured in layers around them until the channel is filled and the ocean is sealed. Because every piece is handmade, the exact shape of the resin channel through the wood, the placement of each creature, and the grain pattern of the block are never identical. What arrives is the only one built exactly this way.
